Pulse
Running is a real social phenomenon. In France, 16.5 million people run regularly. Yet nearly one in two joggers is injured each year. Sarah wanted to prevent the risk of injury. How to create a fun, lightweight and safe tool for healthy running?
She imagined Pulse: a sports metronome for casual runners looking for fun. With Pulse, athletes run at their own pace, encouraged by the stimulation of music. This prevents them from focusing on fatigue and pain. The Pulse bracelet counts the number of steps taken at a given speed and modulates the tempo to encourage the runner to pace him or herself.
This project was selected as part of Design L'Expo 2021 and was exhibited at La Cale 2 Créateurs from 4 December 2021 to 27 February 2022.

Using music, Pulse acts as a metronome and guides the runner towards a healthy rhythm.

"For her end of studies project, Sarah examined the subject of running and the potential injuries associated with it. Indeed, running is accessible to everyone and can be practiced almost everywhere, and has become a real fashion. Through her dissertation, the designer noticed that runners often lack preparation, technique and progression in their practice. So, how to avoid injuries in casual runners? How to guide runners so that they progress gradually while keeping a notion of pleasure?
Thanks to the wealth of her field observations, the designer focused her standpoint on 3 key aspects: prevention, experience and ergonomics. Her promising project is called Pulse. Using music, Pulse acts as a metronome and guides the runner towards a healthy rhythm. Thus, it avoids overtraining or trauma. An application plays music adapted to the type of run chosen, while a connected bracelet measures the athlete’s heart rate and emits vibrations to guide his or her performance. Pulse is a comprehensive project, carefully thought out in its entirety." Élise Fauveau, Freelance Designer
