Totem: the smart, eco-friendly fridge
Did you know that the refrigerator is an environmental disaster, both in terms of manufacture and use? This modern dinosaur has hardly evolved at all since its creation. What's more, it struggles to preserve all its food and encourages food waste. To meet tomorrow's challenges, the refrigerator needs a makeover!
The result is Totem, a sustainable food storage unit. It features modular, interchangeable blocks that optimize the preservation of each food family while respecting their specific needs (hygrometry, light, ventilation and temperature). Made from natural materials, its natural cooling system makes Totem the fridge of tomorrow.
This project has been selected as part of Design L'Expo 2023 and will be exhibited at La Cale 2 Créateurs from 24th January 2024 to 10th March 2024.

Thanks to a user-centered, eco-responsible design approach, Matéo has come up with a modular approach that addresses today's environmental concerns.

"Matéo had the audacity to question the North American standard of large refrigerators, crammed with a maximum of foodstuffs with no regard for their preservation standards. Today, these refrigerators have become heavy, noisy, energy-guzzling behemoths.
Thanks to a user-centered, eco-responsible design approach, Matéo has come up with a modular approach that addresses today's environmental concerns. What's more, this stunning aesthetic solution enhances the contents of each module, putting food back in the spotlight in the kitchen." Laurent Carrier, ESP advisor at Studio Montréal
